Change the mood of an image

Here are two different versions of the same image.  The top image has been edited using my normal process adjusting sharpness, vibrance, and clarity to bring out more of the midtone details.  Then I wondered how the image would look in black and white.  So I converted the image to black and white and thought "how I could make it look more dark and sinister... you know, kind of spooky and foreboding".  So I added contrast and reduced the clarity so the image details weren't so sharp, and added a fairly dark vignette to draw the eye to the center of the image.

Still not sure how to do it?  Well, I just happen to have an eBook that will teach you.  Check out the eBook page here on my blog.  It contains the links to different eBook retailers for the various types of e Reader devices.
